your opinion...

Ok, so I've had a look at a few "Greatest Horror Movies of All Time" lists and to be honest, there's a few that I personally would not include in any sort of list. Some of the films on the list I hadn't even heard of.

But that's got me thinking - my opinion is really different from a standard collection of horror films (e.g. I find 'Nick of Time' and 'Arlington Road' as two of the scariest films I've ever seen - and they aren't horrors)

So, I would like you - the wonderful reader to tell me 5 of the Scariest films you've ever seen...in no particular order. Maybe I'll stumble across a few gems that I haven't seen. Feel free to leave the answers as a comment (below) or email me here.

If you feel like leaving a wee description of the film, or even what you find scary about it, then feel free.

Once again thanks - and also - tell your friends.

just to add...

An interesting read that was brought to my attention just now

read here

also - focus on the section on the formula...

very interesting.

this blog...

Ok, so my posts last week may not have been clear, but I didn’t want too many people really thinking about it before they answered the poll.

This blog is basically a diary and research tool for my masters project here at DoJ. I want to study horror as a genre and more specifically, horror in movies. During this study, there will be various polls or questionnaires asking you, the reader/public, to add your thoughts and ideas to.
I’ll break it down in a very simple way.

I want to find out from you what films you found scary, why you found the scary, what aspects of the film really heightened the tension and suspense in the film. All of you will have different answers I’m sure, but my final outcome is hopefully to find the perfect horror, possibly even film my own short film taking on board all of my research and findings. I’m not expecting to find a formula, but I will be looking into lighting, music, story, location, theme etc. to try and find what really works well and what doesn’t work at all.

Ok, for my next question, I would like to ask you to send me an email (admin[at]pauljcreegan[dot]com) or leave a comment here on this page. I would like you to tell me what the scariest film you have seen and why?

It can be an old classic or modern slasher flick – it doesn’t matter, I just want to know what you liked and why you liked it. And if you have any suggestions for me to go off and watch, then please tell me this too.

Thanks guys for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

P.S. Please tell your friends or anyone that you know that’s into horror or thrillers – thanks.

other...

To make it easier, if you have selected 'other' in the poll - please tell me which by clicking the 'comment' button below.

in the beginning...

Ok, before I go fully into details of what I am studying/researching, I just want you to do something that will take all of 20secs.

On the right of the screen, you will see a simple poll - please can you answer it?

I just want a basic idea of what makes your terror tastes tingle.

Thanks

Paul J Creegan

p.s. the poll will change every week, so keep checking and feel free to leave comments.
